A good copy of 'The Times' dated May 9th 1844 from London to Providence, Rhode Island, US with manuscript 'P Caledonia 2 papers' with good to fine used vertical pair 2d blue pl.3 (SG14) lettered PE QE, PE fine four margins, QE just touched at upper right. Stamps tied two fine inverted strikes of the London No.4 in Maltese cross (Spec E1vd). Slight faults to newspaper as always found on these usages. A most unusual Transatlantic usage with RPS cert. (Ref 139038).
