A very fine re-joined De la Rue 'Appendix' sheet, 155 x 224, upper half with set of 1883-1884 ½d to 1s lilac and green issue (SG187-196) also 1d lilac (SG172), lower half with set of 1887 ½d to 1s Jubilee issue (11 stamps), each neatly cancelled fine strike 'PORTSMOUTH' squared circle trial cancellation JA 5 85 with code 'IL'. This very rare original De la Rue document was officially produced to illustrate and compare the differences and difficulties in identifying the two different issues and led to the introduction of the 1887 Jubilee issue.
