CIRCA 1840 CONTEMPORARY REPRODUCTION OF SOUTHGATE CARICATURE NO.2 THE 'LADIES' ENVELOPE. A good unused reproduction circa 1840, printer unknown of the Southgate caricature No.2 printed in a paler shade on soft white wove paper as used for the original caricatures, several tone spots. It depicts Britannia sending out letters to various ladies including a cook, a milkwoman and a washer woman, the latter unable to receive her letter due to work. Design similar in most respects except it is without the imprint at foot and inscribed 'No.4' on reverse instead of 'No.2'. Rare. (Ref 132571).
