Fine letter from Dolgelly, Merionethshire, dated 20th August 1840 to 'Mefsrs James and Horatio Hughes, Solrs, Aberystwith' with good 1d black pl.1b (SG2) lettered AF, just touched at lower right but tied fine strike red Maltese cross of Dolgelly? On front fine strike 'DOLGELLY' udc in black (W952). Stamp clearly shows 7 o'clock ray flaw and trace of 10 o'clock ray flaw NW square. Attractive and scarce usage of the penny black within Wales.
