1841 UNPAID MAIL LONDON TO RHEIMS WITH FINE STRIKE BLACK MALTESE CROSS WHERE STAMP SHOULD HAVE BEEN. Fine letter from London dated 14th September 1841 to 'Mefsieurs H. Piper and Co, Rheims' sent unpaid with manuscript charge marks and on front at upper right where stamp would usually have been placed is a fine strike of London black Maltese cross. Also on front 'ANGL/CALAIS' date stamp 16 SEPT 41 in red, on reverse London date stamp SP 14 1841, 'PARIS' date stamp in blue 16 SEPT 41 and 'REIMS' receiver 17 SEPT 1841. A most unusual and rare usage with RPS certificate. (Ref 138400).
