1785 MAIL BUNGAY, SUFFOLK TO COGNAC WITH '108 BUNGAY' FIRST TYPE MILEAGE MARK (SK62). Fine letter from Bungay dated 5th March 1785 which references 'Cognac brandy' to 'Mefrs Saule and Company, Merchts at Cognac, France' with manuscript 'Paid to London 5' and onward charge to Cognac. On front good to fine strike of the very scarce '108 BUNGAY' first type mileage mark in black (SK62) and on reverse fine strike London Bishop mark '9/MR'. Slemons records mileage mark between 28 11 1785 and 14th March 1789, this pre-dating by eight months. Very fine usage. (Ref 137890).
