Fine envelope from the Crimea to 'Lady Rufsell, Swallowfield, Reading, England' with fine die 2 1d L.C.14 (Spec C6) lettered AF tied fine strike London '42' Inland Office numeral. On front unusual manuscript 'found sticking to another letter'. On reverse London date stamp 22 OC 1855 and 'READING' date stamp OC 23 1855. On reverse no 'POST OFFICE/BRITISH ARMY' date stamp so letter presumably privately carried and put into the post in London where 1d was applied. (Ref 139516).
