1840 MAIL USED IN SHREWSBURY WITH 1D GREY-BLACK PL.6 (SG3)(TL) WITH 'SHREWSBURY/+' SKELETON DATE STAMP (SH680). Fine letter used locally in Shrewsbury dated Oct 7 1840 addressed to 'J. F. M. Dovaston Esq, Westfelton, Nr Shrewsbury' with good to fine 1d grey-black pl.6 (SG3) lettered TL, margin very close but just clear at lower left to very large margins and tied fine strike red-orange Maltese cross of Shrewsbury. On reverse very fine strike 'SHREWSBURY/+' skeleton date stamp OC 8 1840 (SH680), this hand stamp only recorded between 7th - 10th October 1840 and nineteen days in 1843. Apparently one of only four examples known used in 1840. (Ref 132887).
