Fine envelope from Edinburgh to 'Mifs M Borthwick, The Revd W Duncan, Peebles' with very fine 1d pl.46 (SG8) lettered AE with fine four margins and tied very fine strike Edinburgh Maltese cross (Spec B1tk). On reverse Edinburgh date stamp JUN 21 1844 and 'PEEBLES' date stamp JN 22 1844. Late usage of the Maltese cross which is very seldom seen on any 1d plate after 45, Mike Jackson records later usage of the Edinburgh Maltese cross with his last date of use 24th June 1844.(Ref 136853).
