1857-8 DIE 2 1D PL.37 PERFORATION 16 (SG36/SPEC C11) MINT BLOCK OF FOUR. A very fine mint block of four 1857-8 die 2 1d pl.37 rose-red on white paper with the much rarer PERFORATION 16 (SG36/Spec C11) lettered EA EB FA FB, several slightly shorter perforations at foot of FA and minor gum bend but very fine colour, very well centred and fine original gum. This issue in mint condition is never easy to find and blocks of four are very rare with only ten possible blocks recorded to date. Blocks recorded from plate 36 x 4 although block of eight is in the National Postal Museum, plate 37 x 3 including this block and single blocks from plates 42, 58 and 59. Undoubted exhibition quality. (Ref 138235).
