CIRCA 1879-80 CHARLES SKIPPER AND EAST TREASURY COMPETITION ESSAY. Imperforate sheet of white wove unwatermarked paper, 227 x 142, with 24 impressions of the 1880 Inland Revenue Type 1d essay inscribed 'POSTAGE' printed in venetian red with a single mint example of the issued 1d venetian red (SG166) at right. The two right vertical rows of four at right show experimental washing to illustrate the fugitive nature of the ink used by Charles Skipper and East and De la Rue. Some creasing but a rare original Tender Competition essay, ex Harold Fisher collection. (Ref 136804).
