Mourning envelope from Norwich to Micheldever, Hants with 1d black (SG2) pl.5 lettered AC, unfortunately damaged, tied light strike red Maltese cross. Envelope re-directed on reverse to 'J. H Stephenson Esq, Lympsham, Crofs, Somersetshire' with Penny Black additionally cancelled fine strike 'WHITCHURCH/HANTS' date stamp AU 16 1840 in black. On front light strike 'Whitchurch/Penny Post' hand stamp in black also non-contemporary ink mark. On reverse 'NORWICH' date stamp AU 13 1840, 'ANDOVER' date stamp AU 15 1840, manuscript '2' in respect of re-direction charge and good to fine strike 'Sutton Scotney/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (HA1404). Faults but very unusual usage. (Ref 133003).
