    1840 ENTIRE LETTER MAILED 10th JAN 1840, FIRST DAY UNIFORM PENNY POST USED IN LONDON AT HIGHER RATE OF 4d 1 OZ TO 2 OUNCE, REDIRECTED TO STOW, MISSENT TO DAVENTRY. A fine 'Equitable Assurance Office' printed letter with Assurance tables, used in London from the Strand to Temple Bar with manuscript 'pd 4d' on front, very rare example of the Uniform Penny '4d' rate for mail 1oz to 2 ounces. Redirected to 'Stow near Daventry' with light strike 'MISSENT/TO/DAVENTRY' handstamp on front (NN54) and 'WEEDON' date stamp JA 13 1840 (NN258). Addressee presumably now back in London and readdressed on reverse to Westminster with London date stamp 14 JA 1840. Very rare example of the Uniform Penny 1oz to 2 oz rate used first day Uniform Penny Post. (Ref 135791).
