    1663 LETTER CLARE HOUSE (?) NOTTINGHAM (?) TO LITCHFIELD WITH FINE AND VERY EARLY LONDON BISHOP MARK. Fine entire letter from Clare House, signed 'Clare', presumably the 2nd Earl of Clare (First Creation) 'ffor Mr Henry Shipton at Hamstall Ridware neare Yoxall in Stafforshire' with additional manuscript endorsement 'Leave this at the Post Houfe in Litchfield to be send Litchfield'. On front 'pd 3d', letter dated 7th March 1663 and on reverse fine strike London Bishop mark 'MR/8'. Slight peripheral soiling but all Bishop marks used before the Great Fire of London in 1666 are rare/very rare. (Ref 138952).
