Used 1d Mulready wrapper, stereo A4, London to Liverpool, front toned and filing folds affect, cancelled indistinct red Maltese cross of London, on reverse 'T.P/Pall-Mall' receivers hand stamp in black and London date stamp AU 26 1840. Within fine advert 'ENGLISH AND SCOTTISH LAW FIRE AND LIFE ASSURANCE' advert in blue (MA121c) with 'McMAHON, MURRAY, PIGOT....' directors at upper right. Faults but one of only two examples recorded, the other dated 8 AUG 1840 but this other example has not been seen for many years. (Ref 134759).
