1827 MAIL LOUTH TO NORWICH WITH 'LOUTH/155' MILEAGE MARK (LI698), TURNED AND ILLEGALLY USED LOCALLY VIA PRIVATE DELIVERY. Fine letter from Louth dated Jan 7 1827 to 'The Revd J. Loste, Postwick, near Norwich', charged '10' and on reverse good strike 'LOUTH/155' mileage mark in black (LI698). Letter turned and re-used locally on the 12th January? to the same addressee (?) without postal charge and therefore illegal as a postal service would have existed. (Ref 137586).
