Fine mourning envelope from Cowes to Glasgow, addressed to 'The Revd N MacLeod, Glasgow' and WRITTEN BY QUEEN VICTORIA with die 2 1d rose-red on white paper (SG40) lettered NE cancelled '225' numeral of Cowes. On reverse flap fine crest 'OSBORNE', a royal residence on the Isle of Wight and 'COWES' date stamp FE 23 62. Accompanies is a fine letter on 'ROYAL ARCHIVES/ROUND TOWER WINDSOR CASTLE' headed paper confirming this to be the handwriting of Queen Victoria. (2 items). (Ref 135879).
