1954 MAIL RECOVERED PRESTWICK AIR DISASTER WITH KGVI 5S RED (SG510). Envelope, 223 x 164mm, sent air mail from Manchester to Massachusetts, USA with KGVI 5s red (SG510) cancelled 'MANCHESTER' 21 DEC 1954. Envelope with some damage as usually found on mail recovered from disasters and on front fine strike 'SALVAGED MAIL/AIRCRAFT CRASH/PRESTWICK 25-12-54' boxed cachet in violet. This B.O.A.C flight from Heathrow to New York crashed on the approach to Prestwick with 28 people killed, also aboard was a £900,000 consignment of diamonds a portion of which was never recovered. Fine and scarce usage of a high value on a crash cover. (Ref 139969).
