1845 WRAPPER BITTERNE (HANTS) TO LONDON WITH 'BITTERN/PENNY POST' HAND STAMP (HA227). 1845 wrapper, some soiling from Bitterne, Hants to 'The Reverend Ferdinand Stephens, 49 Baker St. Portman Square, London' with 1d (SG8) lettered NI, very close but clear at lower left otherwise fine margins and tied '723' numeral of Southampton. On front good strike 'Bittern/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (HA227). Hand stamp used one year later than County catalogue records. On reverse SOUTHAMPTON date stamp MR 28 1845. (Ref 126612).
