1845 DATED PIECE WITH 1D PL.61 (SG8)(JJ) WITH MALTESE CROSS CANCELLATION. Piece, 45 x 83, with good used 1d imperf plate 61 (SG8) lettered JJ, just touched at upper left otherwise good four margins and tied good to fine strike black Maltese cross. On reverse 'NEWCASTLE-ON-TYNE' and 'DURHAM' date stamps DE 3 1845. Late usage of the Maltese cross which is very seldom seen on any 1d plate after 45. (Ref 136851).
