1848 MAIL SHEFFIELD TO UNTHANK, PENRITH, RE-DIRECTED TO CARLISLE WITH VARIOUS HAND STAMPS. Letter from Sheffield dated 28th March 1848 to 'Mr Jeremiah Damms, Farmer, Unthank' with 1d (SG8) lettered AI, touched in several places and tied '700' numeral of Sheffield. Evidently insufficiently addressed with manuscript 'Penrith', 'Try Carlisle' and 'Mifsent to' and alongside 'MELMERBY' udc in blue (CU352). Also on front 'CARLISLE' date stamps AP 1 1848 and MY 1 1848 also manuscript 'not for Unthank near Dalston'. On reverse 'DALSTON' udc in blue, 'SHEFFIELD' date stamp MR 28 1848 and 'PENRITH' date stamp MR 29 1848. Some imperfections but unusual usage. (Ref 135243).
