1840 POSTALLY USED SOUTHGATE CARICATURE NO.3, THE 'PEG-LEG' CARICATURE USED LOCALLY IN CAMBRIDGE. A good to fine postally used example of the Southgate caricature No.3 used locally in Cambridge addressed to 'Mifs Theodora Ingle, Market Street, Cambridge', post paid '1' and on front 'CAMBRIDGE' date stamp JU 27 1840. Minor soiling but a superb caricature with Britannia encouraging joyous celebrations either to celebrate cheap postage or a naval victory over the Chinese. At lower right is a gentleman with wooden leg celebrating with a letter. Rare. (Ref 135695).
