1838 MAIL WHITTLESEA, CAMBS TO LONDON WITH 'PETER-/-BOROUGH/PENNY POST' HAND STAMP (NN197). Fine wrapper from Whittlesea 'To Ernest Hawkins Esquire, 4 Trafalgar Square, London' charged '9' and on front good strike boxed 'No.1' receiving house hand stamp of Whittlesea also good strike boxed 'Peter-/-borough/Penny Post' hand stamp in black (NN197). On reverse 'PETERBOROUGH' date stamp DE 13 1838 and London date stamp 14 DE 1838. Although Whittlesea was in Cambridge it fell under the Peterborough Penny Post in Northants. (Ref 128909).
