1840-41 1D PLATE ONE MATCHED TRIO, 1D GREY-BLACK PL.1A (SG3), 1D BLACK PL.1B (SG2) AND 1D RED PL.1B (SG7) ON COVER LETTERED EJ. Fine used 1840 1d grey-black pl.1a (SG3) lettered EJ with four close to fine margins, cancelled red Maltese cross and showing 5 and 10 o'clock ray flaws NW square. Matched with fine used 1d black pl.1b (SG2) with four close to fine margins and cancelled fine strike black Maltese cross. Also 1841 wrapper from London to Regent Terrace in Edinburgh with fine 1d red from plate 1b (SG7) lettered EJ and tied fine strike black Maltese cross. Filing fold well clear of stamp and on reverse London date stamp MY 5 1841. Both examples from plate 1b show slight re-entry marks NE square and 'NNY' of penny (Spec AS5c/AS7c) and check letters have clearly been re-cut and enlarged. A fine and very scarce trio. (Ref 132948).
