    1872 10D (SG112) PAIR OF DIE PROOFS IN RED-BROWN WITH HAND STAMPS 'OLD' AND 'NEW' SHOWING DESIGNS OF ISSUED STAMP WITH LARGE WHITE CORNER LETTERS AND THE PROPOSED BUT UNADOPTED DESIGN WITH LARGE COLOURED CORNER LETTERS. A superb 1872 die proof of the 10d issued stamp in red-brown on white glazed card, 60 x 92, but taken from the unissued plate '4' with large white corner letters 'DE/ED', with hand stamp 'OLD' above. A second superb 1872 die proof accompanies also of the 10d value in red-brown on white glazed card, 61 x 92, also from the unissued plate '4' but with the un-adopted large coloured corner letters 'DE/ED' and with hand stamp 'NEW' above. Latter die proof also has pencil manuscript 'Approved 11 March 1872 2280/72'. A remarkable and incredible rare pair of die proofs from this unissued plate with the two different designs.
