1841 MAIL KENDAL (WESTMORLAND) TO KIRKBY LONSDALE WITH 1D (SG8) KENDAL MALTESE CROSS SHOWING BREAK IN OUTER LOOP. Fine used letter from Kendal dated August 31st 1841 to 'Francis Pearson Esq, Solr, Kirkby Lonsdale' with fine used 1d (SG8) lettered JF with four margins and tied fine strike of the Kendal Maltese cross clearly showing 'BREAK IN OUTER LOOP' at upper right. On reverse 'KENDAL' date stamp AU 31 1841. This outer break in Maltese cross is distinctive to Kendal and Rockoff and Jackson record nine examples from July 1841 until February 1844. Also 1841 entire Kendal to Appleby with 1d pl.5 (SG7) lettered ML with four very close but just clear to good margins and tied very fine strike Kendal Maltese cross without the break, on reverse 'KENDAL' date stamp MA 5 1841.
