1840-41 1D PLATE ONE MATCHED TRIO, 1D GREY-BLACK PL.1A (SG3), 1D BLACK PL.1B ON COVER (SG2) AND 1D RED PL.1B ON COVER (SG7) LETTERED OE. Fine used 1840 1d grey-black pl.1a (SG3) lettered OE, fine four margins, cancelled red Maltese cross and showing 5 and 10 o'clock ray flaws NW square. Matched with a good used 1d black pl.1b (SG2), very close but just clear at upper right to good margins, cancelled fine strikes red Maltese cross on wrapper from Manchester to 'Mr Joseph Leese, Plumber, Mossley', slight soiling within but attractive illustrated billhead. Also fine 1841 wrapper from London to 'George Cooper Esqre, East Dereham, Norfolk' with fine to very fine 1d red from plate 1b (SG7) lettered OE and tied fine strike black Maltese cross. On reverse London date stamp MY 3 1841. A fine and very scarce trio. (Ref 132947).
