163. 1840 INTRODUCTION OF THE UNIFORM PENNY POSTAGE POSTAL NOTICE. A fine example of this very important document dated January 7th 1840 announcing the introduction of the uniform penny post on the 10th January 1840. Exhibition item and very rare. (*) (Ref 61476) £3750.00

164. 1d BLACK PLATE 1b MATCHED PAIR. A very fine to superb 1d black lettered IL (SG 2) with good to very large margins cancelled fine black M.C. MATCHED WITH fine 1d red with good margins, lightly cancelled (SG 7). Both stamps show NONE CO-INCIDENT RE-ENTRY (Spec. AS5c & AS6c). Cat. £875.00. (*) (Ref 61805) £475.00

       

165. 1840 1d black plate 1b WATERMARK INVERTED (SG 2 Spec. AS5l). A fine to very fine used example lettered KE with good four margins, cancelled red M.C. Cat. £1750.00. (*) (Ref 60415) £750.00

166. 1840 1d black plate 1b (SG 2) STRIP OF THREE. A good used multiple lettered BI-BK with close to large margins all round cancelled red M.C.'s. BJ vertical crease. (*) (Ref 60620) £575.00

       

167. 1840 wrapper Dunkeld to Perth with superb 1d black plate 1b (SG 2) lettered BH with fine four margins, tied red-brown M.C. Stamp shows 7 & 10 o'clock ray flaws, backstamped JY/23/1840. Very clean usage, without paperfold. (*) (Ref 60564) £450.00

168. 1d red plate 1b (SG 7) ON COVER. 1841 letter Glasgow to Edinburgh with example just touched at upper right, lettered OA showing RE-ENTRY MARKS (Spec. AS6a) tied black M.C. Backstamped MAY/13/1841. This re-entry fine used off cover cats. £400.00. (*) (Ref 56079) £85.00

       

169. 1841 1d red plate 1b INVERTED WATERMARK (SG 7Wi Spec. AS6a&l). A good used example lettered HB, just touched at upper left otherwise four margins, and showing re-entry in upper squares etc., cancelled fine black M.C. Fine used cats. £2500.00 and the first example we have seen for many years. RPS cert. 187525. (*) (Ref 60946) £950.00

170. 1840 1d black plate 2 (SG 2) USED STRIP OF THREE. A good to fine multiple lettered KE-KG, KG close at right but clear otherwise good to fine margins cancelled neat red M.C.'s. All show 10 & 7 o'clock ray flaws and 'KE' shows DOUBLE 'E' (Spec. AS15c). (*) (Ref 61806) £1250.00

       

171. 1840 letter Chester-le-Street with very fine 1d grey-black plate 3 (SG 3) lettered TI with four close to large margins tied fine red-orange M.C. Backstamped Newcastle-on-Tyne AU/25/1840. Filing fold well clear of stamp. (*) (Ref 58721) £375.00

172. 1840 1d black plate 4 (SG 2). A good used example lettered RF with good to very large margins cancelled red M.C., vertical bend. (*) (Ref 58626) £85.00

       

173. 1841 large part wrapper Lockerby to Edinburgh with very fine 1d grey-black plate 4 (SG 3) lettered OG tied very fine red M.C. Backstamped Lockerby FE/9/1841 with Edinburgh receiver next day. An excellent example of the official last day usage of red ink before black ink was introduced on February 10th. (*) (Ref 62019) £950.00

174. THE DISTINCTIVE MALTESE CROSS OF WHTEHAVEN ON IMPERF 1d RED (Spec. B1tv). A four margined 1d red plate 5 (SG 7) lettered KL with four close to very large margins tied fine strike of this very rare M.C. Cat. £1800.00. but one of the few still under-priced by S.G.
