'ARGUS Life Assurance Company/Post Paid' Circular Handstamp. 1842 letter from the Argos Life office in London to their office in New Town, Montgomery with good strike of this privately produced handstamp in black oerstruck by London Tombstone 24/NO/1842 with New Town datestamp for next day on front. 42. THE DISTINCTIVE MALTESE CROSS OF LIMERICK (Spec. B1tm). 1843 wrapper Limerick to Dublin with fine four margined 1d imperf (SG 8) lettered RG tied very fine strike. Backstamped Limerick AU/30/1843. Cat. £1500.00. (*) (Ref 56781) £1100.00

   

43. LANCS. - BURNLEY SKELETON (LA 233). 1845 wrapper Leeds to Burnley with three margined 1d imperf lettered DC tied '447' numeral of Leeds. On reverse fine strike of the scarce Burnley skeleton in blue AU/22/1845 with Code 2 below. (*) (Ref 57547) £75.00

45. YORKSHIRE/RE-ENTRY. 1847 letter from Ripponden, Yorks to Halifax with fine four margined 1d imperf plate 66 (SG 8) lettered RI showing fine re-entry. Stamp with four margins and tied slightly indistinct cancel. On front fine 'Ripponden' udc in blue struck at upper left and backstamped Halifax AP/9/1847. (*) (Ref 50239) £75.00

46. 1851 wrapper London to Macclesfield with four margined 2d plate 4 (SG 14) lettered MH tied London Inland Office '15' numeral. Backstamped Lombard St. 7/JU/1851. (*) (Ref 58040) £75.00

       

47. 1852 fine printed wrapper of prices current and weather report from Liverpool to Marseilles. On front handstamp '8' re postage paid and Liverpool datestamp OC/8/1852 both in black and Calais transit mark 10/OC/52 in red. Fine, clean usage. (*) (Ref 52938) £30.00

48. '498' BARRED NUMERAL OF MANCHESTER IN BLUE. 1853 1d pink envelope used locally in Manchester cancelled fine '498' in blue, Manchester backstamp on reverse AP/20/1853. Fine and clean item. (*) (Ref 43250) £125.00

       

49. BELFAST English-type spoon (RA 10). 1855 entire Belfast to Ballymoney with fine SG 17 lettered RE tied fine to very fine strike JU/16/1855. (*) (Ref 57608) £60.00

50. CRIMEAN WAR. 1855 envelope (opened out) from the Crimea to Worcester with very scarce combination of 2d plate 4 (SG 19) and 1d star (SG 21) plate 2 lettered IJ tied London '46 46' double numeral. Backstamped 'Post Office British Army' AU/14/1855 in blue and Worcester AU/27/1855. Fine usage. (*) (Ref 57774) £300.00

       

51. CRIMEAN WAR. 1855 envelope, with letter, written aboard ship 'off Odessa' dated October 19th 1855 addressed to Kettering with manuscript 'from B.T.C. Fleet' (Baltic) with manuscript '3' postage paid and Kettering datestamp in green NO/1/1855. Fascinating letter refers to attack on Kinburn 'we have got about 9000 troops with us'. 52. CRIMEAN WAR. 1855 letter (no envelope) written on board 'HMS Firefly off Nargen (Baltic Sea) NOV/10/1855'. Contents, part missing?, detail fascinating ship movements and also the exteme boredom and poor weather in maintaining the blockade of Reval. Writer also refers to a meeting with a local Estonian and his transactions with him. Very interesting. (*) (Ref 51729) £175.00

       

53. 1856 envelope London to Paris with two 4d carmine watermark small garter (SG 62) with fine colour tied slightly heavy London numerals. Backstamped 'Lombard St' 10/MAR/1856. (*) (Ref 57720) £250.00

54. PLYMOUTH SPOON (RA 111). 1856 envelope Plymouth to Tynan, Ireland bearing SG 29 (lifted) plate 25 lettered SE, very fine, tied good strike of the Plymouth spoon MY/5/1856 code B. Plate 25 cat. £60.00 off cover. (*) (Ref 47367) £45.00

       

55. VALENTINE - ANTI SLAVERY ENVELOPE. A good unused example of an original envelope with inscription 'God hath made of one blood all Nations of men' apparently Stave IV, matched with attractive used front State III from Sheffield to Huddersfield with 1d star tied Sheffield sideways duplex JU/24/1856. Latter slight soiling but scarce. (*) (Ref 54930) £375.00

56. DUBLIN SPOON Type A5 (RA 67). 1856 wrapper (slightly fragile) Dublin to London with SG 29 plate 31 lettered EI tied fair strike JY/22/1856. (*) (Ref 53444) £25.00
