20. LIVERPOOL. 1804 letter Sheffield to Warrington with straight line 'Sheffield' in red (YK 2638). Also on front manuscript 'Mifs to' with Liverpool large-type circular mileage mark (LL 65) in red 7/APR/1804. (*) (Ref 57859) £60.00 21. COFFEE HOUSE. 1812 FREE FRANK from Bath addressed to 'Bolt in Tun Fleet Street London' dated January 28th 1812 with 'FREE' frank and Bath mileage mark on front. Very scarce coffee house. 22. LIVERPOOL. 1816 Assurance Questionnaire Dublin to Norwich with superb strike of the two-line oval 'Missent/to Liverpool' handstamp in black (LL 225) with postal charge of '3/9'. Backstamped Dublin 24/OC/1816. Very clean and attractive. (*) (Ref 57858) £160.00

23. 1821 entire Charterhouse London to Tonbridge, Kent with postage incorrectly rated and with various manuscript charges with both manuscript and handstamp 'More to Pay'. (*) (Ref 56273) £25.00
     

24. IRELAND. 1828 wrapper Kilkenny to Dublin with good strike of the 'Kilkenny/57' mileage mark in red, backstamped 1/JA/1828. Addressed to a Masonic Hall. (*) (Ref 56132) £25.00

25. PIAZZA COFFEE HOUSE - LONDON. 1829 letter used locally in London addressed to 'Mr Solomon Vaughan, Piazza Hotel, Covent Garden' endorsed 'P.Paid' at upper left but without postal markings and presumbly sent privately. Some soiling but contents a fascinating read! (*) (Ref 52793) £55.00

     

26. COFFEE HOUSE - LONDON. 1831 wrapper used locally in London addressed to London Coffee House Ludgate Hill. Backstamped 20/JU/1831 and on front good boxed 'T.P/St. James's St' local receiver in blue and handstamp '2' postal charge. (*) (Ref 54563) £65.00

27. LIMMER'S COFFEE HOUSE - LONDON. 1832(?) envelope used locally in London addressed to 'Limmer's Hotel, Conduit Street, London' with handstamp '2' re postage due and 'Portland-Tn' receiver in blue. (*) (Ref 52563) £40.00


28. YORKSHIRE. 1833 wrapper Leeds to London with very fine strike of the boxed 'Morley/Penny Post' in black (YK 2023). Backstamped Leeds AP/17/1833. (*) (Ref 57904) £65.00

ASSURANCE. 1837 life assurance questionnaire used locally in London to Russell Square with 'Cornhill/2d Paid' and 'Post Paid/Metropolitan Life Assurance Society' cachet both in black with London datestamp AP/28/1837 then REDIRECTED to The Bank in London with handstamp '2' and 'T.P Grenville St' receiver both in black. 31. LONDON - SUNDAY SPECIAL HANDSTAMP (L 30). 1838 FREE FRANK London to Aberdeen with a very fine strike of this attractive and distinctive datestamp in red JU/10/1838. (*) (Ref 57924) £35.00

       

32. 1d BLACK/RAILWAY MAIL. 1840 front and flap Liverpool to Northwich (Cheshire) with 1d grey-black plate 3 (SG 3) lettered AH tied light strike of red M.C. Stamp just touched at upper left and on front unusual manuscript 'p Railway Mail', backstamped Liverpool AU/28/1840 with Inspector's 'Star' handstamp in black. (*) (Ref 57764) £225.00

33. 1d BLACK/POSTAGE DUE/WARWICKSHIRE. 1840 wrapper from Hockley to Wandsworth, Surrey with fine four margined 1d black plate 4 lettered SD (SG 2) showing good re-entry (AS 23a) tied red M.C. On front faint 'Hockley/Penny Post' handstamp (WA 178) and manuscript 'Above ½oz 2'. Backstamped Stratford-on-Avon OC/2/1840. Wrapper slight imperfections but unusual usage. 34. CRIMEAN WAR/SIGNATURE OF LORD LUCAN. 1840 envelope Castlebar (Ireland) to Macclesfield, England with four margined 1d black plate 2 (SG 2) with four margins tied red M.C. Backstamped Castlebar OC/4/1840. Stamp affected by filing fold. Signed at lower left 'Lucan' and addressed by him also. Lord Lucan of Crimean fame when ordering the charge of the light brigade. 35. ESSEX - MALDON SKELETON HANDSTAMP (EX 305a). 1841 wrapper Maldon to Clerkenwell, London with three margined 1d grey-black from the very scarce plate 10 (SG 3) lettered MH tied fine black M.C. Stamp shows the distinctive SHORT STUMPY 'H' of plate 10 and State II of the 'O' FLAW. On reverse fine strike of the very scarce 'MALDON' skeleton handstamp with '+' below dated MR/18/1841. 36. 1d BLACK/NORFOLK. 1841 wrapper Cromer to Dereham, Norfolk (George Cooper correspondence) with good four margined 1d black plate 6 lettered CL tied light strike of a red-brown M.C. and on reverse slightly indistinct strike of the 'Cromer/Penny Post' handstamp in black (NK 75). Letter dated 19th June 1841. Filing fold clear of stamp. (*) (Ref 57972) £350.00

37. 1841 letter from Whitbeck Parsonage, to Ulverston with four margined 1d red plate 8 (SG 7) tied black M.C. On front fair strike of the 'Bootle' straight line handstamp in black (CU 47) - year later than recorded by County catalogue. Letter dated July 19th 1841, stamp some creasing. 38. NORFOLK. 1841 letter Shipdham to Dereham with fine four margined 1d red plate XI lettered TC (SG 7) tied black M.C. On front Dereham datestamp in black NO/7/1841. Stamp shows RE-ENTRY in N.E. square (Spec. AS74a). On reverse very fine strike of the 'Shipdham' straight line handstamp in black (NK 356). Filing fold clear of stamp. (*) (Ref 57978) £225.00

39. THE SCOTTISH MALTESE CROSS OF EDINBURGH TYPE II WITH LARGE CENTRE (Spec. B1ty). 1842 wrapper Edinburgh to Inverary with very fine 1d imperf plate 19 lettered MJ with large margins cancelled very fine Edinburgh M.C. Stamp shows constant variety VERTICAL SCRATCHES IN 'J' SQUARE (Spec. BS8e). Backstamped Edinburgh SEP/7/1842. (*) (Ref 50820) £110.00
